2024 Juried Photo Show Exhibition Winners

AUBURN, Ala. The Auburn Arts Association proudly presents The Photo Show, showcasing 40 stunning works by talented regional photographers. The exhibition will be on display through Dec. 14 in the newly renovated art gallery at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. Winners of the show were announced during the reception held on Friday, Nov. 9.

The annual William Penn White Jr. Merit Award was given to Henry Eiland for his photograph, Beetle DeLuxe. The Auburn Arts Association established the award as a memorial tribute to Bill White, a reporter, editor, educator and photographer.

The City of Auburn Merit Award winners include:

The winners of the Auburn Arts Association Merit Awards include:

  • Susan Braden, Garden’s End
  • John David Carcache, Tenants of Teepee in the Trees
  • Marian Carcache, Maxwell Headroom
  • R. Keith Farrar, Nocturnal
  • Didimos Johnson, Kismet
  • Emily W. Myers, Vestiges of Fall
  • Trisha Oliver, Concrete Playground
  • Bryan Peters, Form & Repetition
  • John Rhodenizer, The Mask
  • Arindam Roy, The Lonely Stride
  • John Shadrick, Sunbathing.

The Photo Show Merit Awards were selected by Charles Hemard, a photographer and associate professor who chairs Auburn University's Department of Art and Art History. Hemard holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Fine Arts in photography from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia in Athens. His work has been exhibited nationally and extensively across the Southeast, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia and Opal Gallery in Atlanta, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, the Columbus Museum in Georgia, the Mobile Museum of Art, and the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala, Florida.

The gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information about the exhibition, please call the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center at 334-501-2963.
